The Glue of Society
Thank God for mothers!
Mother's Day is an opportunity to make life special for them. It is a
chance to celebrate family. I thank God for my mother, who died some
years ago. There is one thing I regret: for too many years I did not
appreciate her enough and took her for granted.

10 Memorable Ways to Celebrate Mother's
Day
A mother's love is one of the most powerful forces in this world. Here
are 10 memorable ways to celebrate her love this Mother's Day...
Anna Jarvis - the Founder of Mother's Day
"A printed card means nothing except that you are too lazy to write to
the woman who has done more for you than anyone in the world. And
candy! You take a box to Mother - and then eat most of it yourself. A
pretty sentiment." |

Word on the Street is...
Swine
Flu
Has anyone been affected by this, or do you know of anyone? I find it
so scary, especially because three of my five kids have been sick this
week with flu-like symptoms, but they're fine now.
Proms, dates, and going stag...
I find the new trend of going dateless to proms and homecomings
interesting. On one hand, it's sort sad to see the old-fashioned way
sort of disappear, but on the other hand, it's neat to see a lot of
young people have an opportunity to experience these social events
without the stress and anxiety of finding a date, asking the person,
dealing with the nerve-wracking stuff that goes along with being on a
date, etc...

The Ten Commandments Of Parenting Teenagers
As we all know and regret deeply, kids aren't born with instruction manuals
informing us of the intricacies of how they work. As parents, our only option is
to learn as we go. When our kids were babies, we learned to nap when they
napped, to put valuables up on the high shelves, and that m&ms make excellent
bribing tools when potty training. But now that your baby is no longer a baby
(although he still may act that way from time to time), there is a whole new set
of instructions to learn.
You Are Not Alone
When you think about it, no
one who ever accomplished anything great did it by
themselves. Other people encouraged and supported them
along the way.

Easy Annuals to Grow From Seed
Gardening is a wonderful family project for children of all ages. If

Tips on Garage Sales
Tis the season for garage sales. They can be such fun, or total
washouts. It all depends on how well they are set up and how

Five Ways to Beat Penny-Pinching
Fatigue
Well, you've had enough. You're tired of just scraping by month

My sister sent me this, and
I'm trying hard not to try it!
5
Minute Chocolate Mug Cake for One Person
4
tablespoons flour
4
tablespoons sugar
2
tablespoons cocoa
1
egg
3
tablespoons milk
3
tablespoons oil
3
tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A
small splash of vanilla extract
1
large coffee mug (MicroSafe)
Add
dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix
thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract,
and mix again.
Put your mug in the
microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise
over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a
little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
(This can
serve two if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). |
