The Beanie Pole
by Mia Cronan
Many kids today have so many beanie toys in
their possession, that they take up a lot of space in your house
or in their rooms. Here is a great idea for storing them that will
keep them accessible yet looking neat.
They’re adorable, but they do need to be put somewhere when
our tots aren’t playing with them. What can you do besides
clutter up a bookcase, or toss them in your child’s toy box at
the end of the day? Here’s a simple solution that can cost under
$5.00, and it is a convenient, space-saving way to store the
beanie toys. All you need is two 6-foot long 1.5" by
1.5" pieces of wood, a pack of 1/4 inch elastic, and a staple
gun. Have one of the lengths cut into four pieces, 10 inches each.
You can stain or paint the wood piece, or you can leave it
plain. You may even want to decorate it with decals, stickers,
stencils, or markers. (The kids might enjoy decorating them
themselves, too!) With your staple gun, staple loops of 6-inch
lengths of the elastic, randomly spaced from the top to the bottom
on all four sides, approximately six inches apart.
To make the base of the pole, use the four 10-inch pieces of
wood, and nail one sideways (parallel with the floor) into each of
the four sides at the bottom of the pole, all going in the same
direction. This creates a sturdy base for your pole. Each beanie
toy can then have its own place on the Beanie Pole when looped
into the elastic!
