Need Ideas for Orphaned
Socks?
Anyone who has ever done laundry has had an orphan
sock or two. Here are some ways to put them to work!
Orphaned socks are great for nail biters. Let the little ones
decorate with
indelible markers. At bedtime, its fun to make up stories with the
'puppets' on their hands and they can take their new friends to bed by
keeping them on their hands.
At bath time, slip
leftover slivers of child-safe soap into an orphan sock,
tie the end and use for a pre-soaped washcloth.
Use decorated,
orphaned socks to store and WASH marbles or other small, water
resilient toys that gather and spread germs.
Want to get the kids
to help dust? Decorated, orphaned socks to the rescue! Slip them
over little hands to see how much dust gathers on the 'face' of the
sock.
Then, of course,
there's the old puppet show standby: Decorate orphaned socks with
buttons, feathers, ribbon, felt, etc. Cut a frame out of a cardboard
box, tape or staple a piece of scrap fabric to each side (for a
curtain) and decorate the box, if desired. With flaps out (stage
wings), set the box on a stable surface and the kids are ready for an
entertaining puppet show.
