Watch Me Grow - I'm One
(Book Review, by Mia Cronan)
by Maureen O'Brien, PhD
ISBN 0-688-16878-7

Every parent's guide to the enchanting 12 to 24-month-old

Why does peek-a-boo render a child in fits of laughter?  How do these little ones learn to associate the sound of a word to its meaning?  How do you know what's going on in that sweet little mind that belongs to your tot?  Well, you don't, but this book offers some beautiful insight to how a one-year-old gets through this world.

I found this to be a sweet book full of stories and examples of small children learning how to function in and manipulate their environment.  You'll find yourself smiling when you imagine your child going through the very motions mentioned in Watch Me Grow - I'm One.

It is written in a friendly, familiar voice, and talks to you as a loving friend would.

What I liked most about this book is the way children and their growth is respected.  They're people, too, and Dr. O'Brien really emphasizes that in a compassionate way.

The book is broken down by the different abilities that children have, such as verbal skills, motor skills, communication and the need to be in tune with surroundings, emotions, and cognitive abilities.

I highly recommend this book for parents and caregivers who wish to have a better understanding of these active little tots!
